Nicht nur die derzeitige Fundchronologie, sondern vor allem die seinerzeitigen naturräumlichen und sozioökonomischen Bedingungen in Mesopotamien einerseits und Mitteleuropa andererseits sowie recommendations- bzw. Erfindungsfaktoren hinsichtlich des Wagens, sprechen für seinen mitteleuropäischen Ursprung. In Mitteleuropa bestanden hinreichende Innovationsvoraussetzungen und hoher Transportbedarf. Die mesopotamischen Innovationshemmnisse hinsichtlich des Wagens (insbesondere Sklaven, Kanäle und Esel) fehlten in Mitteleuropa; und die Nichterfindungen des Wagens in den komplexen Andenkulturen und in China zeigen, dass eine „Hochkultur“ bzw. Verstädterung für eine Wagenerfindung nicht maßgeblich conflict.
Mitteleuropa bzw. die Trichterbecherkultur conflict, zumindest nach derzeitiger Fund- und Sachlage, nicht nur der früheste, sondern wohl auch der einzige Erfindungsort des Wagens. Von dort drang die Erfindung, die Wagenidee, nicht nur über die Wartbergkultur zur Horgener Kultur, sondern auch nach Osteuropa und, wohl über „südrussische“ Steppen und den Kaukasus, nach Mesopotamien. Die Diffusion der Wagenidee ist wesentlich wahrscheinlicher als eine polyzentrische Erfindung.
