Es soll daher die Existenz eines eigenen Nike-Kultes abgefragt werden, andererseits möchte ich auch die Frage nach der allgemeinen Verständlichkeit der NikeFigur untersuchen.
Dabei habe ich versucht, weitgehend chronologisch vorzugehen. Homer kannte Nike noch nicht, wohl aber Hesiod. Demnach erscheint es mir ratsam, ab dem sechsten vorchristlichen Jahrhundert nach Nike-Darstellungen zu suchen. Außerdem möchte ich anmerken, dass die vorgestellten Denkmäler nicht nach Bedeutung und Tragweite für die griechische Kunst ausgewählt wurden, sondern nach ihrer Relevanz für die erwähnte Fragestellung. Ich habe daher versucht, bedeutende wie unbedeutende Kunstwerke gleichberechtigt zu behandeln. Einen Anspruch auf etwaige Vollständigkeit weder der bekannten wie auch der unbekannten Werke kann daher diese Arbeit nicht bieten.
